[A new publication by Stensvold and Farrar (Online, Dec. 13, 2016) confirms the existence of this newly described species from insular Nfld. Stensvold & Farrar listed a specimens from Cow Head, wNfld., as part of the material they examined in their study, and its presence had been previously confirmed by D. Farrar from specimens (NFM) and images taken by John Maunder from several coastal locations. Stensvold, in her Ph.D. thesis (2008), considered the (then proposed) Botrychium neolunaria to be endemic to North America. Farrar (2011) noted that plants of B. neolunaria "cannot be reliably distinguished" from typical B. lunaria by morphology alone and that in eastern Canada, these two taxa overlap in distribution only at high elevations, while habitats at lower elevations "with few exceptions" are occupied by B. neolunaria. While only one NL location is mentioned in Stensvold & Farrar (2016), the species is certainly more widely distributed through Newfoundland. Re-examination of existing herbarium material at NFM and other herbaria will provide more detailed information about the NL range of this species.]
