[The earlier names, Malus pumila Mill. (1768) and Malus communis Desf. (1798) were rejected (nom. rej.) in favour of Malus domestica (Suckow) Borkh. (1803). This change was accepted at the XIX International Botanical Congress in July 2017, with the changes published in the 2018 International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi, and Plants (Shenzhen Code). The name Malus pumila was given as the accepted name in the printed version of Flora of North America (FNA) (Vol. 9, 2014), with the newly accepted conserved name, Malus domestica (Suckow) Borkh. and the earlier rejected names now appearing in the digital version of Volume 9 of FNA (http://floranorthamerica.org/Malus_domestica).]
