[A new subspecies of Rosa virginiana, recently described by W.H. Lewis, includes specimens from several communities in Nfld. (Lewis 2016): Conception Bay, La Manche PP, and St. Anthony. It differs from the typical R. virginiana by having leaves with smaller teeth along the margins, usually 12 teeth per side, more densely prickly lower stems, and branches with both slender prickles (aciculi) and stipitate glands (Lewis 2016). The range of this subspecies may be expanded once local herbarium specimens of R. virginiana are examined.]
