[Previously classified as historically present in Nfld., Andersonglossum boreale was reported from only one location in wNfld.; it was relocated in 1950 (Bouchard et al. 1991, reported as Cynoglossum virginianum var. boreale), and again along the Humber River shoreline by C. Hanel and Aare Voitk in 2013 (C. Hanel, per. comm., 2015). In 2015, J.I. Cohen published a paper that placed Cynoglossum virginianum in a new genus, Andersonglossum (J.I. Cohen 2015). He did not recognize C. virginianum var. boreale as a distinct taxon at that time and synonymizing it under Andersonglossum virginianum. He also coined a new combination, Andersonglossum boreale, but since he did not accept this taxon as distinct from A. virginianum, Cohen's original publication of the name A. boreale is invalid. (ICBN, Melbourne Code, Art. 36.1a). Recent research by Jiménez-Meijías, J.I. Cohen, and Naczi (2017) reestablished the status of var. boreale as a species distinct from A. virginianum, and validly published the name Andersonglossum boreale.]
