[Several specimens annotated by Stu Hay (MT) of Eutrochium maculatum var. foliosum have been verified for insular Newfoundland, although E.E. Lamont (1995) stated that only Eutrochium maculatum var. maculatum occurs in Nfld. Also, M.L. Fernald stated that this variety, which he described as Eupatorium purpureum var. foliosum, was the characteristic form of the species from western Newfoundland, and from the Gaspe Peninsula to northern Maine, Michigan, and Iowa (Fernald 1908). Wiegand (1920) reported additional NL specimens from Manuael’s River, Brigus Jct., Grand Falls, Bluff Head (BOI), Harry’s River. See Wiegand (1920) for detailed information on the varieties of this species.]
