[Since Solidago elongata Nutt. is now recognized as a western (B.C.) goldenrod species, Fernald's S. lepida var. elongata (Nutt.) Fernald is a misapplication of the name for an eastern Canadian taxon, and is now considered synonymous with S. brendae (Semple 2013). Note that the epithet brendae was originally published as brendiae, but this was deemed a correctable error according to the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN); the accepted spelling is Solidago brendae. Reports of Solidago canadensis var. canadensis from NL are referred to either S. brendae or S. fallax.]
