(Parents: Betula papyrifera × Betula pumila var. pumila)

[=Betula borealis sensu Fernald 1945, 1950, non Spach 1841]
[=Betula papyrifera × B. pumila var. pumila Zabel]
[=Betula pubescens Ehrh. subsp. borealis auct. non (Spach) Á.Löve and D.Löve]
[=Betula pumila L. var. borealis auct. non (Spach) Regel]
[=Betula ×sandbergii Britton var. fernaldii Lepage]

[This hybrid had previously been reported from Newfoundland as Betula ×sandbergii Britton, but this taxon is a cross between Betula papyrifera × Betula pumila var. glandulifera, a variety that does not occur in Newfoundland. Thus, the name B. ×sandbergii cannot be applied to Newfoundland plants. In 1976, Lepage described B. ×sandbergii nothomorph fernaldii, which is a hybrid of B. papyrifera × B. pumila var. pumila that does occur in Newfoundland (Bateau Barrens and Blomidon); however, Betula ×borggreveana Zabel ex H.J.P.Winkl. (1904) is the name that has priority for this taxon at the species level. Additional records from eNfld. can be found at MT and TNNP.]
