Caryophyllaceae/Caryophyllacées - Pink Family
Sagina caespitosa Lange
En: tufted pearlwort
Fr: sagine cespiteuse, sagine gazonnante
Provincial Status: LN
Range: Arctic amphi-Atlantic; S to nLab (Kaumajet Mts.), nwNfld.

[=Arenaria caespitosa J.Vahl 1840, nom. illeg. hom., non Salisb. 1796]
[=Sagina nivalis (Lindblom) Fr. var. cespitosa (Lange) B.Boivin]
[=Spergella caespitosa (Lange) Á.Löve & D.Löve]

[The first verified Nfld. report of Sagina caespitosa was from the White Hills, nwNfld. (S.G. Hay, et al. 1994). Since J. Vahl's name, Arenaria caespitosa, is an illegitimate homonym, it cannot be used as the basionym of future combination; Lange's 1857 name then becomes the basionym of more recent combinations based on priority.]
