[Equisetum hyemale is a species now know to be restricted to Eurasia. The correct name for North American specimens of this taxon is now Equisetum praealtum Raf. Previously classified as historically present in Bouchard et al., (1991), as Equisetum hyemale subsp. affine, E. praealtum was relocated at the mouth of Fischells Brook, swNfld., by the NFRPP in 2000. More recently, it was found on Robinson's River and Crabbe's River by Claudia Hanel (2009, 2010) and in Felix, Port-au-Port Peninsula, by Susan Meades, Bill Meades, and Anne Marceau (2018). The original specimen was collected at Middle Birchy Pond, wNfld., in 1910.]
