[The first confirmed Labrador reports of C. parviflorum var. pubescens come from Stantec field crew member, S. Bennet, who located this species in wLabrador, near Wabush. (Stassinu Stantec Ltd. Partnership 2013).  Cypripedium parviflorum var. planipetalum was classified as rare in Nfld. (Bouchard et al. 1991, reported as C. calceolus var. planipetalum). However, C. Sheviak (1994, 1995, pers. comm.) considered the flat-petalled plants representative of typical variation found in northern populations and the FNA treatment (Vol. 26) includes var. planipetalum in synonymy under var. pubescens. While much variation in shape and colour of C. parviflorum var. pubescens petals can be observed even within the same ravine, some authors still believe that var. planipetalum should be recognized as a distinct variety (e.g.: Case 1993, 1994).]
