[When Platanthera aquilonis was first described by (Sheviak 1999), it was thought that all North American specimens of P. hyperborea were actually P. aquilonis, and that the range of P. hyperborea was restricted to Greenland and boreal Eurasia. However, recent research by Sheviak (2011) has shown that both P. aquilonis and P. hyperborea do occur in North America. In Canada, P. hyperborea is now reported from MB, NL, ON, and YK. Within Newfoundland and Labrador, Sheviak references one specimen that contains no collection details: "J.K. Dean, s.n. (NYS), Newfoundland: w/o locality and date." See Sheviak (2011) for a detailed key and illustrations to P. aquilonis, P. huronensis, and P. hyperborea.]
