[Previously classified as historically present in Nfld., Symphyotrichum ciliolatum was known only from the type locality of Fernald's Aster foliaceus var. subgeminatus (Bouchard et al., 1991), now classified as a hybrid of S. ciliolatum and S. novi-belgii (L.) G.L.Nesom var. novi-belgii. A 1999 collection from a floodplain of Romaines Brook (NFM) confirmed the presence of this species in Nfld. (Djan-Chékar et al. 2004). In 2015, new populations of S. ciliolatum were documented from the Port-au-Port Peninsula by Stantec botanists S. Bennett and R. LaPaix. A Labrador report of S. ciliolatum (NFM) from Fig Lake, near Lake Winokapau, cLab., made by I. Goudie in 1999 (ACCDC data, 2015) is referred to Symphyotrichum novi-belgii.]
