[Alnus glutinosa was known historically from collections at Birchy Cove (now Corner Brook) by Waghorne in 1876 (GH), where it was located in a churchyard and probably of planted origin; however this specimen has not yet been verified. Recent collections of persistent plantings were documented in 2004 by J. Maunder at Virginia River, St.John's, and Whitboure, eNfld. Labrador reports by Schrank, 1818, are probably based on Alnus rugosa var. americana (Scoggan 1978: 588).]
