[Plants of Halenia deflexa in the Gulf of St. Lawrence area have been recognized as var. bretoniana, but introgression with the typical form does occur. Differences in NL plants appear to be typical phenotypic variation (protected sites have taller plants, exposed sites have shorter, more compact plants), so subspecific ranks have not been recognized in this checklist.]
